The Art of Film Direction

The Master's degree program in Film Directing contributes to the training of future professionals in the film and audiovisual field. During the two years of study, the specific notions of film directing are deepened, continuing with the learning of new creative techniques. The theoretical experience is complemented by individual or group projects, through which students develop a portfolio of personal creations.

Graduates of this program are well versed in the language of film directing who manage to find creative ways of expression in short and feature film productions. Interdisciplinary collaborations facilitate the student's development of team spirit and understanding of the management of the film project, seen as a whole, both from an artistic and practical point of view.

In the case of email addresses (YAHOO), there may be compatibility issues between the email address and the admission form registration site.

Complete portfolios/CVs are submitted after registration, only in electronic format. The candidate must ensure that all required elements are in the portfolio and can be accessed, otherwise he/she will not be admitted to the exam.

The University will make available to the candidate, but only after registering on the 2Edubits platform, a folder on a secure platform where he/she can upload the requested documents, a folder to which only the institution and the candidate have access. Access to the platform will be communicated to the email address used for registration.

A. Conditions:

  • candidates must have graduated from a specialization with 180 credits or 240 credits;
  • candidates must have achieved, as a director, at least one fiction film.

B. Upon registration, candidates will submit:

  1. A cinematographic project, proposal for a short fiction film (maximum 15 minutes), containing:
    • Argument – ​​2-3 pages (A4, font size 12, 1,5 lines)
    • Synopsis – maximum one page (A4, font size 12, 1,5 lines)
    • Screenplay* – max 15 pages (written in Final Draft screenplay format)
    • Directorial concept – 3-5 pages (A4, font size 12, 1,5 lines)
    • Cutaway for the entire film accompanied by storyboard for at least two important sequences
    • Cast – proposal (photos, minimum two proposals / role)
    • Decor – proposal (sketches or location photos)
    • Costume – proposal (costume sketches or collages)
    • References (photos, or other materials that provide clues about the atmosphere or style of the future film)
  2. CV – filmography, awards, festivals;
  3. Un fiction film, short film, which will become the subject of the competition in round 1.

* In the admission exam, the committee does not score the script, but only the other elements related to the director's work: the argument, the director's concept, the editing, the distribution proposal, etc. It is not mandatory for a candidate to also be the author of the script, but it is mandatory that the proposed script has not been produced and the candidate must have the written consent of the screenwriter, attached to the file.

Each test is scored from 1 to 10.

Sample 1

Oral test – colloquium

  • Interview based on the candidate's CV.
  • Analysis of the directorial means used in the film submitted by the candidate for registration.

Sample 2

Oral test – colloquium

  • Support for the cinematographic project submitted upon registration.

 In case of equal averages, the candidates will be tied by taking into account the grade obtained in the 2nd test.
